Top Attractions
Qinhu National Wetland Park
A national 5A wetland park in Jiangyan District, split by the lake into two halves reached by shuttle boat. Milu deer and red-crowned cranes live in the marshes, and the annual Qintong boat festival sends thousands of vessels racing across the water — spring regattas, summer lotus and autumn birdwatching give every season a draw.
Qianduo Scenic Area
Famous for its "duotian" fields — raised earth plots floating on water built by ancestors against floods — Qianduo turns into one of the world's four great flower seas when spring rapeseed blooms around Qingming. Wooden boats thread the flower plots and a viewing tower frames the classic couplet: every field a golden flower.
Navy Birthplace Memorial
The memorial where the Chinese People's Navy was founded in April 1949, at Baima Town of Gaogang District. An old-site manor that served as the East-Line command of the Yangtze crossing campaign pairs with a modern exhibition hall tracing the navy's journey from this riverside birthplace; free entry, closed Mondays.
Mei Lanfang Memorial
The memorial to Peking-opera master Mei Lanfang sits inside the Fengcheng River scenic area, honoring the ancestral home Taizhou claims as the "hometown of Mei." Ming-Qing style halls amid plum and orchid plantings display the master's life, costumes and manuscripts — a refined stop for opera lovers and city wanderers alike.
Wanghai Tower
First raised in 1229 of the Southern Song and known as the Finest Tower of the Jiang-Huai region, Wanghai Tower is the emblem of Taizhou beside the Fengcheng River. Climbing it surveys the moated old town, with Peach Garden, Old Street and the Mei garden responding along the banks.
Huangqiao Ancient Town
A national historic town dating to the Northern Song, with over 2,000 Ming-Qing buildings across 24 old lanes. The He Clan Ancestral Hall ("First Hall of North Jiangsu"), geologist Ding Wenjiang's former home and the New Fourth Army Battle Memorial anchor this free-to-enter heritage gem.
New Fourth Army Huangqiao Campaign Memorial Hall
A national patriotism-education base and one of China's hundred classic red-tourism sites, opened in 1980. The old hall sits in the Ding family garden at Mixiang Lane; a new 8,000-square-metre building on Zhifu North Road adds eight exhibition halls on the 1940 Huangqiao Campaign and the townsfolk's famous biscuit-support effort. Free, closed Mondays.
Lizhong Water Forest
A national 4A forest of some 1,050 mu in Xinghua — the largest man-made wetland woodland of the Lixiahe region. Taxodium trees stand in water where herons nest overhead; bamboo rafts glide through the cool channels and the woods turn golden and most photogenic in late autumn.
