Top Attractions
Huaguo Mountain
A national 5A mountain inseparable from the Monkey King legend of Journey to the West, in Haizhou District. Yu Nutong Peak at 624 meters crowns Jiangsu's highest summit; Water Curtain Cave, the Seventy-Two Caves and Sanyuan Palace temples dot the slopes, where macaques roam freely.
Liandao Island
Jiangsu's largest island, joined to the city by a 6.7-kilometer sea-crossing causeway that makes the drive itself an attraction. Fine-sand beaches at Dashawan and Sumawan, an undersea world and seafood stalls fill the island; entry about 45 CNY with island shuttle tickets separate.
Kangrishan (Anti-Japanese Hill) Martyrs Cemetery
The only mountain in China named for the War of Resistance, begun in 1941 by Eighth Route Army troops and local militia on the Su-Shandong border. 363 steps climb eight terraces past 751 martyr graves, 3,576 carved names and the 1973 memorial hall; a national key martyrs site and 4A scenic area, free and open 8:00-17:00.
Haishang Yuntai Mountain
A national 4A mountain rising straight from the sea in Lianyun District. China Donghai Crystal Museum
The core venue of the national 4A crystal-culture zone in the "crystal capital" Donghai, tracing crystal from raw cluster to carved art with world-class specimens and craft galleries. Free with ID, open 9:00-17:30 (tickets until 16:30) and closed Mondays; the giant Donghai Crystal City mall stands next door.
Kongwang Mountain
A low hill east of the ancient Haizhou city, named for the legend that Confucius climbed here to gaze at the sea. Its Eastern Han Buddhist cliff carvings — the earliest known in China — are a national key heritage site, with Dragon Cave and stone elephant relics along the paths.
Donghai Crystal City
The trading heart of Donghai — China's famed "crystal capital" — next to Xishuang Lake. Free to browse hall after hall of raw crystals, carvings and jewelry; the open-air crystal fair convenes on lunar-calendar days ending in 4 or 9, a collector's spectacle in itself.
Xishuanghu Park
A national 4A wetland park beside Donghai County seat, known as the "crystal capital." Free and open all day, the park is famous for its summer lily festival — over 70 varieties and 500,000 blooms — alongside lakeside walkways and water features.
