About Yangshan Stele

The site of the largest stele ever attempted, abandoned in 1405 during the Yongle Emperor's reign. Three massive stone blocks—body, head, and base—lie abandoned in the quarry. The body alone weighs 8,799 tons, making it an engineering marvel of the Ming Dynasty.
